Right outta the gate, we’ve got black licorice – the quality kind that leaves your fingers a little sticky. I love that stuff. Especially with red wine as a night cap. Having it IN the wine, also quite nice. Other darker flavors come out as the wine opens up, tobacco, pine resin, rough fir bark, and the classic white pepper. Just when you think it is too much, you get some sweet relief with Italian plum and maraschino cherry. Still the darker fruits, but with a pop of freshness.

Notes of bramble, earth, my favorite gummy cherries, candied ginger, and graham cracker are all bustling about in this wine. While this wine is only going to get better as it ages, the grippy tannins can only be described as “home grilled burger ready!” (Yes, we had burgers last night when I was doing my “research”.)

60% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc. This is a food wine if there ever was one! You get the rich, spicy, full mouthfeel of the semillon followed by the crisp, refreshing finish of that sauvignon blanc. Rosted chicken, shellfish, cheeses, ham, spicy foods, it really goes with everything. 

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2022 Merlot smells like forging a trail to the beaches of Vashon Island after an early summer rain. There are the bright, fruity salmon berries you pop in your mouth, but there is also the bramble branch of that berry bush which snaps as you trudge forward. There is cedar, pinon, and that fancy lemon verbena soap my mom used to use. It manages to be simultaneously lovely, clean, and bright, while also rich, and earthy.

 It manages to be bright and fresh, showing sweet red fruits, and dark and rich with blackberry and beauty bark. The plush soft mouthfeel reminds me of the mouthfeel of the perfect late summer nectarine.

Supple red fruits like plum, currant, and dried cherries lighten up the darker flavors a bit. There’s even a touch of super-ripe, fresh, juicy peach sneaking in there. The contrast of the dark notes in with the bright, fresh flavors, has created a complex wine which I cannot wait to see how it ages. 

Fresh pipe tobacco, soft lilac, bramble, plum, and leather all comingle in this young, yet powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. Campfire smoke, wet stone, pear, a squeeze of grapefruit zest, and fresh sliced almonds keep you guessing as to what is going to start to shine as this wine ages, but there is no guessing how magnificent it is going to be.
